Ms. Cavin shared with a us a lesson that she did with her second grade class. She showed us the technology and websites that she would use when teaching her class this lesson. She shared with us different tools that she would use, and questions she would ask the students during this lesson. Ms. Cavin also shared with us personal aspects of her teaching career.
Ms. Cavin used these ISTE standards in the lesson she showed us:
-Leader 2b: “Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content, and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.” She told us how she assess the students after a lesson. When certain students don’t get the lesson, she goes over it with them, meeting the need there. Or she has students who do understand it, teach it to those students.
-Designer 5a: “Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.” She had the student independently create a google slide about the learned material.
-Facilitator 6a: “Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.” Ms. Cavin has the students sit a tables and they each share something about the lesson with a partner.
-Analyst 7a: “Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning using technology.” She has multiple websites that students can use for this.
-Analyst 7b: “Uses technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.” She showed us an app that she uses usually after a lesson that assesses the students, and gives instant feedback on how they are doing.
-Analyst 7c: “Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students, parents and education stakeholders to build student self-direction.” She uses the information to share with the students. Then she helps them understand the lesson in a variety of ways.
One ISTE standard for students that I can see being addressed would be Empowered Learner 1c: “students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.”
